I have been hesitant to purchase any printed denim since the trend started for fear that I would instantly hate the print. However, for some reason I have an affinity for snake prints (especially for handbags and shoes). So, when I saw these French Connection pants on sale at Bloomies I decided to try them out.
Note: They are not denim, they are a stretchy legging – like fabric with a snake texture. They also have an elastic waistband, which I thought was strange at first, but I don’t really mind it that much. They only downside of the elastic waistband is that you can’t wear these pants with shorter shirts that end at the hip.
Fit wise, they are super comfortable and feel like you are wearing your PJs out in public. The high contrast print makes them super flattering, especially at the thighs. They are very versatile and can be paired with colorful pieces as well as neutrals. Since they end right at the ankle, they can also be worn with flats, which is awesome for running around in the city.
You can still get them on sale at Bloomingdales for $83.16
We just got these new J Brands in at work and all of the girls have been lusting after them. Acid washing and heavy distressing are going to be huge trends for Spring, and these fall into both categories. I think they are technically considered an “acid washed black”, but they are really just white jeans with a distressed wash. They have holes at the knees and a raw, frayed edge at the ankles as well as textured wrinkles at the hips. I have to say, the distressing looks like something that would work on a looser jean, so I was curious to see how these actually looked on. Here is a picture of them on the J Brand model:
I snuck into the dressing room during lunch and popped them on to see how they would look on a “normal person” since clearly no one else has legs this skinny 🙂
I am not 100% sure how I feel about these. They definitely fit true to size which is nice, and they are actually a reasonable length (considering most J Brands are 3-5 inches too long on me). BTW – I am 5’5″
One thing I do not like about them is the fact that my knee was poking out of the hole. I feel like jeans with holes should be a bit looser so that they don’t look like you created the hole by squeezing your thighs into a pair of pants that didn’t fit. Also, the distressing at the hips looked a bit weird because of how tight they are. Again, I associate that type of distressing with looser jeans, and don’t think it works with this slimmer fit.
I could see them looking really cool with an edgy outfit – like with a leather jacket and some chunky jewelry and studded boots, but only for the skinny legged women of this world. I will probably pass on these.
Just got home from work to a wonderful surprise: My Steve Madden Abonita boots just arrived 🙂 They really do look a lot like the Rag & Bone Newbury boots. The heel is a great height for walking around in, while still giving you a bit of height. They also have a nice, small ankle opening, which I find hard to find in ankle boots. Most of the ones I try on have a huge opening that moves around when you walk and looks weird with skinny jeans or shorts. They are on sale on Amazon for $99 right now. I highly recommend as a wardrobe staple this year!
So, every once in a while, I get asked to do a bit of fit modeling at work. I happen to be the sample size and 5’5″ so it’s convenient for me to jump out from behind my computer and try on some of the new things our buyer is thinking about getting for Spring.
This lovely dress is inspired by one we had in the store last year, but with some improvements. We made it a bit longer as well as more fitted in the bust area. Now the only question is: What colors do we want to get this dress in? I personally think it would be fabulous in black with the bottom panel in a stark white. (Can you tell I have a think for the B&W trend this Spring?). We also discussed nude with a cream trim and coral with a cream trim.
Please feel free to leave comments and let me know which color combo you would buy!
The ones I would buy:
Ok, I don’t need these shoes. I have to keep telling myself that because they aren’t really that expensive (on sale for $142 on Shopbop) so I COULD buy them. But no, I don’t need them. I can’t walk around the city in heels like that. But they are SOOOO pretty! So, if you live in a place where you don’t have to walk everywhere, then you might need them, and you should buy them now, while they are on sale and before they sell out 🙂
Trend: Rag & Bone Newbury Booties
It’s pretty obvious why celebs like Sienna Miller, Rachel Bilson and Nikki Reed can’t get enough of these adorable booties. They are so versatile and easy to wear with thier mid-sized heel and simple design. Since I am not willing to drop $500 on shoes, I found a few “look alikes” listed below. I put in links to the originals, the mid-grade look alike (Steve Madden’s that I actually purchased today) and the super-cheap versions that give you the look without the price.
